Welcome to Our Homestead

Ducks, Chickens, Geese, and a WHOLE LOT OF VEGETABLES

And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight’s all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet’s wings.

W.B. Yeats

Welcome to our garden!

Spring is coming up fast! We have already started over 300 plants under grow lights : chard, kale, beets, Brussels sprouts, peppers, and eggplant. Lettuce, tomatoes, basil, cilantro, cucumbers, zucchini, winter squash, and more will soon join them in the attic under the grow lights. Garlic was planted in October, and has looked good all winter long. Snap peas, radishes, Seychelles string beans, and potatoes will go in the ground in another month or so.

String beans

Vegetables are your friends

We love Seychelles string beans and Five Star grape tomatoes.

As a physician with over 30 years of clinical experience, I know all too well how diet impacts health. There is a mountain of evidence that changing from the typical meat-based American diet heavy on processed foods to a mostly plant-based diet with limited amounts of highly processed food (like the Mediterranean diet) could play a huge role in preventing many common diseases, like diabetes, hypertension, and heart diseases. Diet could also reduce the incidence of many cancers, like colon cancer.
